This Light It Reveals

Adi James

Inspired directly by my experience of a violent night-time thunderstorm approaching over the Rhodope Mountains in southern Bulgaria, the lightning revealing a slither of mountain lit for split-seconds, and the thunder bouncing off the landscape, 1500m above sea level. The storm passes directly over me and eventually recedes, offering the same intense experience to others as it travels slowly across the region.

Inspired by my first visit to Bulgaria and the city of Sofia, with its intense mix of history, remnants of its Communist-era brutalist architecture and the modern vibrant city it is now. This track attempts to distil this visceral city and the culture of Bulgaria into my music.

Outside Out of Body

A spontaneous piece, that came as I played with the glorious Oberheim OB-E synthesizer, producing a vivid picture in my mind. This is the story of a first-time astronaut's first-time spacewalk, urged on by mission control to fix a problem on the outside of his ship. It's a taught, panicky piece punctuated by his hard breathing, but with the momentary feelings of intense awe as his fear triggers an out-of-body experience - and he looks at his own self from outside his body, engulfed by space.
